Survey Junkie is one of the many popular sites where you can sign up to get rewards in the form of gift cards or have payment deposited into your PayPal account just by completing simple surveys.
You might be wondering if it is legit or a scam? You don’t have to worry because it is a good site and you will get to cash out your points without a problem.
I decided to do a review on this opportunity to show you the pros and cons of signing up.
My Survey Junkie Review
When it comes to making money online there are not too many ways to do it for free other than surveys. Your trading your time for money.
One thing that you to need to realize is that doing online surveys isn’t something that will replace a regular income. You can possibly make some gas money or money to go out to the movies but it isn’t going to add up to a significant amount.
The pay is low but the work isn’t hard and its not like your ruining your car as an Uber driver. Your sitting in your home or a coffee shop with just a computer and internet connection.
Sign Up Process
Getting started is simple and only requires basic information to set up your account such as:
- Zip code
- Date of birth
Once this information is entered you will receive a confirmation email that you need to verify and your set to go and fill out your profile so that you can be matched with the different surveys that come available.
You will also get a chance to participate in different research type of survey activities which you can opt in or out of as shown below.
Product Testing earn $5 to $50
Complete surveys and if your one of the people that gets chosen you will receive products that need to be evaluated. Give your feedback on the product so the company can know what needs to be improved.
Online Focus Group earn $25 to $100
After doing a survey you can participate in an online focus group with others discussing what you like and dislike about the product you were surveyed on. You will need to have a webcam and a good internet connection because this is done live over the web.
Phone Interviews $5 to $100
If your one of the lucky ones you may be chosen for a phone interview after completing an online survey. Answer the questions and get the chance to earn up to $100.
Before you get all excited thinking that you will be making some good money with these, the company only does these on a few occasions.
With the millions of people that sign up with Survey Junkie, you may never get a chance to participate.
Once your profile information has been filled out you will be able to start taking surveys which will be listed in the back office as shown below.
1. Points Total
Just by signing up and filling out my profile information I was able to earn 100 points. As you complete more surveys you will be able to keep track of your points here.
Each survey opportunity will show the estimated time it will take to complete. In my experience it usually takes longer because they put you through a short screening process before you can even take the survey. This is to make sure that your matched for it.
3. Points Earned For Survey
Once you have completed the task you will earn the amount of points shown when you started. Looking at the picture above you can see that the one survey will take 17 minutes which will earn you 40 points while the one right below it will take 20 minutes and earn you 90 points.
I think I know which one I would pick here!
1 Minute Surveys
Once your on the email list you will receive surveys that take only a minute to complete but will earn a total of 10 points.
Not a bad deal right?
The only problem is that by the time you log in to do the survey someone else has already jumped on the opportunity. So you can rarely get these “easy” ones to complete.
How Much Money Can You Make With Survey Junkie
As you fill out and complete the surveys you will be earning points. An easy way to think of it is for every 100 points you earn $1.
So by looking at the surveys and their estimated time to complete you can get an idea how much you should make per hour.
Its safe to say that you would be making between $2 to $3 per hour. Working 8 hours per day would get you $16 to $24 gross pay.
In order to cash out you would need to have a minimum balance of $10 in your account (1000 points) which would be about half a days work.
Survey Junkie Complaints
Naturally there are going to be a lot of people signing up expecting to make decent money. Then when they see that it is really time consuming for what you get they will give it bad review and overall negative rating.
Another complaint is that you can get half way through a survey only to be told you don’t qualify. Then you have to start all over with a new one.
Here is a complaint that I found listed at the BBB.
What does surveyjunkey do to ensure its loyal survey takers dont spend time on unwanted surveys? Absolutely nothing! I’ve spent countless hours on surveys only to be notified I wasn’t qualified for the survey.
These complaints are fairly typical of all the survey sites that I have tried myself. There is nothing more frustrating than doing a survey only to be disqualified part way through.
Survey Junkie Pros and Cons
Lets recap what the good and bad of this opportunity is so you can make a fair assessment if its worth your time or not.
Pros ( the good stuff )
- Free to join
- Low minimum cash out
- Paid by PayPal or gift cards
Cons ( the not so good stuff )
- Monotonous work
- Less than minimum wage
- Limited to the US, Canada and Australia
Survey Junkie is legitimate and they are really no worse than some of the other companies I have come across. Personally I find doing surveys to be boring and monotonous.
I am not sure how some people can spend hours per day sitting in front of their computers answering questions when there are better alternatives.
SwagBucks was probably my favorite of the survey sites that I have tested primarily because there were other ways to make money with it other than surveys.
Another legit alternative is Opinion Outpost that operates very similar to Survey Junkie.
When it comes to making money online it really boils down to what your long term goals are. For example spending a lot of time doing surveys really isn’t going to earn you enough money to get ahead.
As a matter of fact its probably doing more harm than good.
Its just as easy to build a website and add content to it so that you can monetize it and build a long term passive income.
Luckily I never have to do surveys again after learning how to build an online business using affiliate marketing.
