Creating Content For Your Audience
Sounds simple enough but believe it or not there are many marketers that don’t focus on their niche.
In other words instead of having targeted content that caters to a specific group of people they try to get as much traffic as possible by creating content for a wider audience.
This is a big mistake.
Ultimately you want your audience to know exactly what you are promoting when they land on your website, video channel or social media account.
So before even considering creating any content make sure you define your target audience.
For example if your in the camping niche and promoting camping products you may decide to include recreational vehicles as a content strategy.
You have to ask yourself if this makes sense or not.
Although there is some overlap between the camping and RVing niches they really are 2 different niches.
You should at least be laser focused in the beginning and as you build up a following only then should you start to test the waters by adding different content to your marketing strategy.
Keywords Research For Creating Content
Keywords play an important roll when it comes to creating content online.
Without the proper keywords no one will be able find you.
So what exactly is a keyword you might be asking?
Lets go over it in its simplest form.
A keyword is what you type into a search engine when you want to find something.
For example “what is the best laptop”.
This is a very popular keyword as shown by the results circled in the image below.
With over 1 billion results available!
Beginners usually make the mistake of creating content around these competitive keywords.
After all if you can rank on the first page of Google for “what is the best laptop” you would get a ton of traffic and make some good money.
But the reality is that it would be almost impossible even for an established website to get ranked for such competitive keywords.
That is why when your creating content for your online business its better to stay away from keywords that have this much competition.
Its your job as a marketer to find the keywords that your audience is searching for that you can actually rank for.
Find Low Competition Keywords To Have A Successful Content Marketing Strategy
Whether you plan to make a YouTube video or a blog post finding keywords with the least amount of competition but a good amount of traffic is paramount to your success.
Its better to find a low competition keyword that you can rank for to get 10 to 20 visitors a day than it is to go after a more competitive keyword that you may never rank for.
So how do you find these low competition keywords?
There are keyword research tools available that will give you some quick data to help analyze which keywords to target.
Some of the more common ones are:
- MOZ Keyword Explorer
These are a small sample of the many different keyword tools available that allow you to do keyword research for your content.
I myself use the Jaaxy keyword tool because I find that it is fast and simple.
What Kind Of Information Does A Keyword Tool Give You
The main reason for using a keyword research tool is to find low competition keywords.
But there is other data that is useful when choosing which keyword to write your content around.
- How many monthly searches there are for that specific keyword
- How many websites are currently ranking for that keyword
- How much traffic you are able to get for that keyword
- Alternative keyword suggestions
Below is how I do my keyword using the Jaaxy keyword research tool.
I type in the keyword that I would like to target and it gives me all the information that I need to make an educated decision.

What Are The Different Ways To Create Content Online
Content creators can utilize one method or multiple methods in order to start and grow an online business.
- Social Media
In the beginning I thought that I would need to be on every social media platform as well as have a website and YouTube channel but that’s not the case.
Just pick one way to get started and master it before moving on to another is my advice.
1. Create Content Online With A website
This is my number one favorite content marketing strategy and I will tell you why.
Every online marketer needs a foundation for their business and a website is that foundation.
It has become very easy to build your own website with a few clicks of a button.
Whatever type of advertising or traffic generation you plan to do can always be directed back to your website.
This is where you can go into more detail about your products and services while also warming up potential customers to who you actually are.
But there are some other reasons as well that make a website your best option as a content creator.
- The content you create for your website is yours (you own it)
- You can design whatever look you want either custom or through easy to load themes
- A website is a place to capture leads for email marketing
- You can hire content writers to build out your website
My main reason for having a website is that all the content that I create is mine and I have full control over who sees it as well as not having to worry about someone taking it away.
This can’t be said for marketers that have content on social media or other platforms that are run by different companies.
These platforms can change the terms, ban you from their platforms or erase content that you created if they don’t like it.
2. Create Video Content On YouTube
Content marketing using video has become all the rage these last few years.
Thanks to YouTube anyone with a cell phone or webcam can create video content with the potential to reach millions of people for free.
Its no wonder that YouTube has become the 2nd largest search engine on the web.
Some of the benefits of creating content using YouTube are:
- Its free
- People rather watch video than read text
- Videos can be embedded on your website
- Videos can reach millions of people
- Creating basic videos is easy
So as you can see creating content for YouTube has many advantages.
I also find that its faster to create content with videos than it is to create blog posts for my websites.
But there is one big downside that you may encounter as a YouTube content creator.
All the videos that you make and upload are the property of YouTube.
Which means that there is the possibility in the future things will change and your content can be deleted or your account closed if YouTube doesn’t like the content on your channel.
I have seen this happen to some marketers.
Some marketers have also lost some of their advertising revenue because YouTube changed their terms.
Just remember that all the content you create on YouTube is not yours.
So just use it as a tool.
3. Creating Content On Social Media
Social media has been a good marketing channel for many online entrepreneurs.
Most of them are free and offer a way to target specific groups of people that may be interested in your products or services.
Some of the different social media channels to consider are:
Its best to pick just one maybe two social media channels when getting started.
Otherwise you will get bogged down trying to keep up with multiple accounts.
Plus depending on what your promoting one social media channel may be better than another.
For example Pinterest seems to be better geared towards women while Twitter is better for technology related content.
Another thing to keep in mind is that to really benefit from using social media you will need to create personalized content.
Instead of just using your accounts as a way to advertise you must make the connection with your audience as a way to grow a following.
Facebook for example has become way to commercialized in my opinion.
Too many people pushing products trying to make a quick buck.
The marketers that have been seeing the most success on Facebook are the ones that create personalized content based on their daily lives or content that is indirectly related to what they are promoting.
Their audience slowly builds and starts following them.
Some of the advantages of creating content for social media are:
- Its free
- Can target specific niches
- Allows marketers to build a following
- Helps to build your brand
These are some great reasons to not overlook social media when it comes to your content marketing strategy.
The biggest downside though is that you don’t own the content that you create on any of these outlets.
I stopped using Facebook when they locked my account.
I was only linking to blog posts on my website and apparently they didn’t like this.
So once again I suggest just using social media as a tool instead of trying to make it the foundation of your content marketing strategy.
Should I Create My Own Content
One thing that can be cumbersome is trying to stay consistent creating quality content everyday for different marketing channels.
You might have to write blog posts, do videos and update your social media accounts.
In order to be successful you need to consistently create good content.
Consistency is the key.
So if you are finding yourself overwhelmed or you are ready to scale up your online business then you will be happy to know that its possible to outsource content creation.
Bloggers usually rely on content writing services that offer set rates for a certain amount of words.
You can pay as little as $10 for a 500 word blog post or as much as $120 for a 1000 word blog post.
Typically you get what you pay for so if your going to create content for your website using a company specialized for this purpose it can get quite expensive.
That is why before purchasing any content creation services I suggest learning the ropes first so you know what works and what doesn’t.
Tips For Creating Great Content
In order to create good content whether your blogging, creating videos or posting on your social media accounts there are few simple guidlines to follow.
- Answer questions – most likely the reason you have audience is because they are looking for information and answers to their problems.
- Research – take your time and get the correct information. Make sure you use facts and reference specific sources that you use.
- Use catchy headlines – half the battle for getting your content noticed is by using headlines that stand out in the search engines.
- Be original – everyday there are billions of pieces of content being produced on the web. Most is just rehashed over and over again. Try and produce original content to stand out from the crowd.
There are different ways to create content online in order to build your brand and become a successful marketer.
In my opinion it all starts with your website.
From there you can use other content marketing tools such as video and social media to compliment your marketing strategy.
There are many content creators as myself that enjoy the lifestyle of being able to work from different locations without the everyday stress that comes with a regular 9 to 5 job.
Learn the basic steps on how to get started and then be consistent with your efforts is all it takes.
