Offline Business Ideas For Stay At Home Moms & Dads
First lets start with some home based business ideas that don’t involve spending the day online.
Lets face it some people are high energy and need to be on the move all the time so there is plenty of opportunity for you if your this type of parent.
Don’t laugh I have seen stories of people that have made some good money finding bargains at garage sales which they then turn around and resell on places such as Craigslist, eBay or your very own garage sale.
A lot of times there will be some real bargains that can be had.
Some garage sales may have junk while others may have antiques and possibly new items still in the box that can bring a hefty profit.
Lets say for example you find a 55 gallon fish tank and stand that you can grab for $75.
You then do a quick scan on Craigslist with your cell phone to see that they are currently selling for about $125 to $150.
Bam! You just found a something that you can sell easily for some good cash.
As time goes on your garage sale hunting skills will improve and you will start to learn what is worth buying and what to stay away from.
See the potential here?
This would make a nice little side income for most stay at home moms and dads.
Maybe you don’t want to spend the day driving around but would rather stay closer to home.
If you have to watch your kids why not add a few more doing child care for other parents in the neighborhood?
If your a parent that has a ton of energy this might be right up your alley!
I know that in my area the cost for a week of child care runs between $200 to $400.
So as a child care provider you could be making $800 or more monthly per child with your business.
If you do decide that this is a business idea that you would like to pursue then I might suggest that you look at what is required by law in your area for licenses and insurance.
You may also have to go through a background check as well.
Stay at home moms and dads that like to cook have the opportunity to start their own food take out business.
Nowadays everyone seems busier than ever and many of us are always on the go.
Having the convenience of being able to get some real home cooked food instead having to order out would be a great alternative.
If you would like to use your cooking skills and cater to these “on the go” types there could be some income made preparing home cooked meals.
Come up with a menu of items that you could make and figure out what the costs would be to prepare them.
Then put a price on them and start getting the word out that you can supply home cooked meals to the locals that they could pick up on their way home from work.
Or maybe find clients that would be interested in getting a weeks worth of meals made at a time.
Hair Cutting Business
This is a service that everyone needs and it is easy to get business just from word of mouth.
I am very familiar with this because my best friends mother used to do this business out of their home.
After a while she built up a decent clientele and she liked the social aspect of getting to chit chat with different people while she was working from home.
There was really no overhead and setting appointments easy enough.
The money was decent and there really was no stress.
It was run as a part time business usually in the afternoons before the kids got home from school.
If this is a business that you think that you might like to try but don’t know how to cut hair no problem.
There are usually schools in the area that teach the skills of hair cutting.
Online Business Ideas For Stay At Home Moms & Dads
Maybe you want to take advantage of the potential that the internet has to offer when it comes to making money with an online business.
Millions of stay at home moms and dads have discovered that they can earn an income online with different business models and I will go over a few here.
E-commerce and Dropshipping
Thanks to technology it has become easier to get your own online store started using the different e-commerce carts available.
A couple of the well known companies Shopify and BigCommerce have streamlined the process so once you have your credit card processing set up you just need to start adding products and promoting your new website.
Some companies will even dropship items for you so that there is no need to invest in inventory or have to deal with the shipping.
I got my start online by starting up an e-commerce business that dropshipped products.
It took a little while to get visitors but after a while it got ranked in the search engines and I started making sales.
Maybe you don’t want to have a full blown e-commerce business but would still like to use the internet as a way to make some money selling things.
The good news is that there are marketplaces such as Etsy, eBay and Amazon that offer you a way of selling your products without having to set up your own shopping cart.
Plus they already have a lot of traffic being generated of visitors looking for products such as yours.
For example Etsy is a marketplace where you can sell your handmade goods.
They charge anyone that wants to sell on their marketplace a .20 cent listing fee and then 5% of the sale price.
The benefit is that you won’t have a large out of pocket expense and no ongoing monthly costs.
eBay and Amazon work in the same way except they cater to buyers for all different categories of products not just handmade.
So if you wanted to sell some used products such as software, electronics or clothes eBay might be a good fit.
Amazon is more for selling new items as well as digital downloads of e-books.
This is the current business model that I am using to earn a passive income from home.
The benefits are that you are selling other peoples products so there is no inventory to stock, customers to deal with and you can work it from any location with an internet connection.
It is very budget friendly as well because all you need is a computer which everyone already has.
Although I enjoyed having a dropshipping business I would much rather do affiliate marketing.
Because there is less to worry about when it comes to the day to day tasks that need to be handled and I went over this in another post comparing the two.
How affiliate marketing works is that you can earn commissions just by referring people to a product or service.
Some of the biggest retailers such as Walmart, Target and Amazon have an affiliate program.
I belong to a training program that teaches how to build a website and get a affiliate marketing business started.
To me it makes a great way for stay at home moms and dads to start a budget friendly online business with huge upside potential.
Stay at home moms and dads have many great opportunities when it comes to starting a business from home.
You must keep in mind the future and where you want to be financially in the years ahead.
For me I wanted to pursue an online business that gave me a balanced lifestyle.
Being an online entrepreneur is what I always dreamed of and now I am living it thanks to affiliate marketing.
There is no right or wrong business model and you may need to try a few different ones before deciding on which one is right for you.
Taking action is what counts.
With that being said if you have any interest in pursuing affiliate marketing the I encourage you to take a look at the community that I belong to.
There are many stay at home moms & dads that are building their online businesses with step by step help.
